WHO WE ARE
As the rain and the snow come down from the heavens and do not return without watering the earth, making it yield and giving growth to provide seed for the sower and bread for the eating, so the word that goes forth from my mouth does not return to me empty, without carrying out my will and succeeding in what it has been sent to do.
Is 55:10-11
This is where we, as nuns of the Order of Preachers, find our place – to exist to receive the Word of God, to celebrate it with joy, to ponder it in our hearts and live by it so that all are touched with its saving power.
Being nuns of the Order of Preachers means that we belong to the worldwide Dominican Family – Friars, Nuns, Sisters, Laity – who try to centre their lives on the Word of God. The friars, sisters and laity of the Order preach the name of the Lord Jesus throughout the world while the nuns seek, ponder and call upon Him in solitude – so that the word proceeding from the mouth of God may not return to Him empty, but may accomplish those things for which it was sent.
A DREAM
We dare to dream – to be as Dominic was,
ardent fiery apostles.
Beloved and lovers fast-knit to Christ,
radiant with His joy.
Preachers whose silent voices resound
Throughout the universe,
By love, by prayer, by quiet pondering
of the Word of Life.
Compassionate listeners, pleading, interceding
for mercy on the broken and needy people
of our world.
Companions united in the Truth
Graced by our sisterly communion.
Sinners in need of Redemption
identifying with our fettered
brothers and sisters
in our chosen immobility.
Yes, we dare to dream – to be as Dominic was,
ardent, fiery Apostles
of the glad tidings of Salvation.
If you make my word your home you will be my disciples; you will come to know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
